Default Voice communication?

Alright, so i found out the special edition will have a mic. My question is do alot of people use the voice communicator in the game? was it even possible to use these Mics in beta?

This will be my first time actually using a mic on the PC..on my xbox live it's a normal thing to chat with people..i'm guessing Roleplayers will be sticking with text?

You can use third party voice software, like Ventrilo and TeamSpeak.
And they are quite commonly used, especially by highly ranked guilds.

Yes, a lot of people are using voip in the game. It's really easy to set up. And I'd imagine that roleplayers could use the mikes for their characterizations, also.

Haven't used Ventrilo in awhile, but for Teamspeak just go to www.goteamspeak.com and you can download the Server client if you are going to run a server from your own system, or just get the User Client if you are going to be connecting to another TS Server. As for as the Free 3 month hosting that you get you have to wait until you recieve your CE box and follow the steps in there. If ya have any other TS questions feel free to PM me. Lots of settings to mess with if you are behind routers and such.

You install Ventrillo or Teamspeak, you plug in the headset to your computer, turn on Teamspeak/Ventrillo and go to wherever your friends/clan is and talk into the mic.

If they really are including a Microphone in, I'd think that there'd be Voice support built in the game, right?

Remember that it also comes with a Teamspeak subscription, so I'm guessing they want you to use that. There was some talk about them adding it in-game, though.

Honestly, I don't see any need for teamspeak or the like for PvE play.

If you want to be social, it makes it easier to talk with your friends and teammates.

It depends. If you want to figure out port-forwarding or DMZing and host a server on your own computer, well, then, it's free. If you want a dedicated server from Teamspeak that you can connect to whenever, then that costs you money. The Collector's Edition comes with three months of the hosted Teamspeak.

one important thing to remember when setting up ventrilo is to setup a push-to-talk button, you can find this option by clicking the 'setup' button.

also: do a mic check and see if the volume is good. if you need to turn it up move the outbound up, if the other people talking are too loud turn the inbound down.
